General Undersecretary of the Ministry of Housing and Construction Discusses Strengthening Strategic Partnership with France's SUEZ to Develop the Water and Wastewater Sectors
As part of the Ministry of Housing and Construction's policy to strengthen international cooperation and establish strategic partnerships with major global institutions and specialized companies—thereby supporting national efforts in reconstruction and infrastructure development—Mr. Abu Bakr Owaidat, General Undersecretary of the Ministry of Housing and Construction, held a technical meeting with a delegation from the French company SUEZ, one of the world's leading companies in the management and development of water, wastewater, and infrastructure projects.
The meeting was attended by the Undersecretary for Affected Areas, the Undersecretary for Reconstruction, the Director of the Projects Department, the Director of the Research and Studies Department, the Head of the Ministry's Southern Region Office, alongside a board member of the General Company for Water and Wastewater and the Director of the Water Resources Projects Center. This participation came within the framework of coordinating national efforts with global houses of expertise to contribute to developing scientific and practical solutions for the challenges facing the water and wastewater sectors in Libya.
The meeting witnessed extensive discussions covering ways to build an effective institutional partnership with SUEZ and leverage its extensive expertise and international experience in planning, design, execution, operation, and asset management. This aims to enhance the efficiency of water and wastewater systems and elevate the level of basic services in accordance with the latest global engineering standards and practices.
The two sides also discussed executive mechanisms to establish a joint strategic vision for developing and maintaining water and wastewater networks in various Libyan cities and regions, aligning with sustainable development requirements and establishing a new phase of technical and technological cooperation based on expertise exchange, knowledge transfer, the localization of modern technologies, and national capacity building.
The General Undersecretary emphasized that the Ministry of Housing and Construction continues to implement its vision aimed at opening up to leading international institutions and attracting highly competent global expertise, proceeding from its belief that strategic partnerships represent one of the core pillars to support development and reconstruction programs, and to accelerate the implementation of vital projects that serve citizens and enhance the sustainability of infrastructure facilities across the country.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the two sides agreed to continue technical coordination and begin preparing a framework and a joint strategic vision that defines cooperation priorities and executive mechanisms. This paves the way for launching qualitative projects that contribute to developing the water and wastewater sectors, support the state's objectives within reconstruction programs and the "Return to Life" initiative, achieve sustainable urban development, enhance service quality, and consolidate the foundations of comprehensive development in Libya.
