Minister of Housing from Baku: Completion and construction of 150,000 housing units and the transition towards smart cities
Minister of Housing and Construction, Engineer Essam Al-Tamouni, is participating in the 13th World Urban Forum, hosted by Baku, Azerbaijan, from May 17th to 22nd, 2026.
In his address, His Excellency emphasized that the slogan "Return to Life" represents the overarching national strategy that prioritizes the national housing project, aiming to complete and construct 150,000 housing units to ensure social stability for families and youth in Libya.
The Minister also outlined the features of the upcoming five-year plan, which focuses on transitioning towards smart, science-driven, and safe cities. In a gesture of remembrance, His Excellency offered his condolences for the victims of Cyclone Daniel in Derna, explaining that this tragedy highlighted the true character of the Libyan people and their unity across all regions, making social cohesion the cornerstone of reconstruction. His Excellency the Minister extended an open invitation to the world to engage in responsible investment based on public-private partnerships to build sustainable cities. He emphasized that the true measure of urban development lies in elevating human dignity and making stable housing and a decent standard of living an inherent right and a steadfast principle. He concluded his remarks by affirming Libya's active return to participation, development, and leadership in international forums.
