The Minister of Housing discusses ways to preserve the historical heritage of the old city of Tripoli.
Minister of Housing and Construction, Engineer Essam Al-Tamouni, held a meeting today, Wednesday, with the Old City Management Authority of Tripoli, in the presence of the Authority's Director, Mr. Mahmoud Al-Naas, and Board Member, Engineer Nouri Awiti.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Minister welcomed the attendees, praising the efforts exerted by the Old City Management Authority in preserving the historical and cultural character of the city. For his part, the Director of the Authority expressed his gratitude for the Minister's interest and keenness to hold this meeting, emphasizing the importance of joint coordination on this vital matter.
The meeting addressed several important issues, most notably the evacuation of buildings of historical value within the Old City, methods for inventorying them, and the development of a clear mechanism for dealing with them based on reports submitted by specialized technical committees. The meeting also reviewed the issue of dilapidated and structurally unsound buildings, discussing the possibility of taking urgent measures to address them, in addition to developing long-term strategic plans.
Furthermore, the meeting explored ways to utilize open spaces in areas near the city center by encouraging investment and establishing projects that contribute to revitalizing the urban and demographic fabric of the Old City while preserving its historical identity.
